INBIA represents the interests of the UK’s insect bioconversion industry
About INBIA
We were informally founded in 2023, when UK-based businesses Beta Bugs, Better Origin & Flybox first explored creating a trade association for the nascent sector.
The association was formally incorporated in summer 2024 with the support of UKRI’s ‘Regulatory Science & Innovation Networks’ initiative, and started operations in earnest in 2025.
We lead a range of domestic policy campaigns, interact with regulators on behalf of the sector, as well as are spear-heading creation of standard & best practices with household names like FEMAS.
INBIA also supports a range of foreign partners, such as landmark project SafeInsect 2.0 led by Wageningen U&R (Netherlands).
Our Policy Priority
-
Legalise Unallowed Feedstocks
Broaden the feedstocks that insects can be reared on to include currently non-permissible substrates such as meat-containing retail, manufacturing & hospitality food wastes.
This will:- Catalyse growth of the sector, helping bring investment, create jobs and making the UK ‘go to’ destination for scaling insects in Europe;
- Boost global competitiveness, since besides the EU everyone else already does this;
- Maximise the sustainability impact by using the wastes that otherwise are more likely to end in landfill.
Ready to join?
We are actively recruiting members from the UK insect bioconversion sector.
Whether you are an insect technologist or progressive waste manager, we’d love to hear from you.
